I don’t know if the agonizing pain I had in my right hip and leg was really sciatica, but it fit the description. I had read that if you sit “Indian style,” that is, cross-legged with knees out, it takes the pressure off the nerve. Many people can’t sit that way. There’s an effective alternative.
I happened to be lying down when I remembered this idea. Lying on my back, I pulled my knees up and then let them fall outward so the bottoms of my feet were together and my legs made a diamond shape. The pain stopped. The next day the pain returned. I did that exercise again and the pain went away. It’s first aid, not a cure.
Again, this is just my own experience. Sciatica is a symptom, not a condition in its own right. Please consult your doctor or physical therapist before trying anything you feel unsure about.
